I'm just wondering are there any Python wrappers exsisting for interfacing Python with MATLAB compiled C/C++ shared libraries? Has anyone done similar projects and what would be the best approach? Many thanks!

As of MATLAB R2014b there exists bi-directional support for directly interfacing MATLAB and Python.
