code failing or not working correctly

The attached code is very simple but I'm trying to learn. :) The code is using a very simple file to count shapes on a page. In this case, just two circles but I cant get the count to (1.) be correct and (2.) to display in the script I wrote.

The final goal is to read the file 10mgml and count the light colored shapes on it. I started out simple since I'm not getting anywhere with the larger task.

Can anyone help please.
