Confusing questions like this are almost impossible to answer. Any answer we give you may well be right or as easily completely wrong, just a complete guess.
However, there is a VERY simple way to obtain an answer. You were told to do something, by your supervisor, your thesis advisor, your teacher, etc. There is obviously a great deal of confusion in your mind about the request. So rather than asking them for further explanation, why would you ask a highly confusing question of others?
Just ask the person who assigned this task to you. They know what they intended, and it is their job to make sure that you understand the task to be performed.
