How to create an interactive GUI plot dependent on input variables and time?

I am pretty much a beginner in Matlab. For the purpose of this question, I am trying to create a GUI plot that uses a start/stop button to animate/simulate an equation in real-time (up to a large time 't' or infinite) using timer object in place for my time variable while at the same time allowing me adjust the input parameters with a slider as if I am turning a dial or a knob. For example, the video in the link below shows a very similar concept of what I am trying to create, but without a slider to adjust the input. How do I code such a GUI plot? I am very inexperienced in creating GUI's with Matlab.

Any tips or simple example coding with help greatly!

This is a very general question. I suggest to start the programming and ask specific questions, such that an answer can be given in several minutes. Currently the best answer would be a kind of general purpose GUI creation manual.
