Voice Feature Extraction for voice recognition

hi, my name is arief. I have problems and confusion. This is about my final project and my essay in campus. I had the idea to the final project about voice recognition. for example : identify the owner of the voice and whether the owner of the voice is a man or woman. *may be, something like this has been implemented to guitar tuner for tuning the guitar (you can try and download it in playstore or appstore). i have a question , what applications I can use for feature extraction of voice to be processed and recognized in real time. does MATLAB has this feature/library to do this ? or if it doesn't. what applications that you recommend and can be used to make it so, is there something else? please give me a hint or perhaps a reference about it because I feel confused. I am very grateful to you for helping me. Thank you.
