Finding objects in a grayscale image

"bwlabel" is used to find the connected objects in an binary image where my intention is to find the objects in a grayscale image. Is there any alternative way to do so?

Make your grayscale image into a binary image using a set of logical operations that isolate your object. Then call bwlabel

bwlabel will itself will work.. if the object is a distinguished one from other parts of the image..
