What are the best training functions for pattern classification and why?

I want to do a five class pattern classification with patternnet and I want to know what are the best training functions for this job?

I am still confused even after your most helpful comment but what are the most commonly used I tried trainlm it take too much time and hanged my system. trainscg is good it works fine but are the others I should consider?

The default for PATTERNNET is TRAINSCG. For the last X years or so I don't recall having to use anything else.
