Buying Local Matlab License Vs US buying

I am told that we cannot buy the Matlab and its associated tools from another country and only to be bought by the local distributor. (needless to say, distributor told me so)
Is it true ? if I am in Asia, is it not possible for me to buy from US ?

It is expected that you purchase MathWorks products in the country you are intending to use the products. In your case, you are not working in a country with a direct MathWorks office, so indeed the distributor from this pull down list is where you are expected to buy from:
