how can i place a new point between two point in an elliptical manner?

can any one help me with this situation?
lets say we have two points (1,2) and (5,6) to create a point between them, we use linspace, tag.this produces straight line points between them but i want the points to be in an elliptical shape.

There is an infinite collection of ellipses that pass through those two points. How would you decide which you want?
