MATLAB GUI for Arduino + quad stepper driver?

Hi, i'm using the ArduinoIO package to get matlab and my arduino board to talk to each other and specifically to enable me to create a GUI to send commands to my ArduinoMega 2560 board to control 4 stepper motors via a sparkfun quadstepper driver board.

The problem i'm having with the package is that the included motor_v1 sketch is meant to be used with the adafruit motor driver and not the quadstepper driver/library that i'm using and for the life of me i can't figure out how to change the code to support this custom library. I'm by no means an experienced coder.

If anyone has any experience with using a arduino and sparkfun quadstepper board and matlab to control stepper motors i'd be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction on how to alter this code to suit my particular stepper library.
