What does the initial condition option io in sim/lsim/compare

Dear fellow Matlab users,

i have a question: I dont know what Matlab does, when you choose the io initial conditions option in compare or sim. Is there also some fit performed by Matlab? Because i need some simulation method, where the initial values are not further fitted but dont start by zero.
