how to record a video,segment it into frames & detect an obstacle from those frames?

i'm doing a project for visually impaired people where i need to record a video, segment them into frames, identify the obstacles and instruct the user in such a way that he avoids the obstacle and moves around the environment in a safer manner........ once the obstacle is identified the instruction will be given as voice command via hearphones.. can anyone help me on this????????

See my attached demo where I extract individual frames and write them to disk, if you want to do that. Write at least one frame to disk and repost it so we can tackle the next part of your problem which is, once you have a frame, how do you identify the thing you're interested in?
