how to join broken line in binary image for closing the area by line?

To a binary image i want to find out area of different object in a picture, but i am not able to connect the edges which are broken. kindly advice.

Hi image analyst. Neither of to seem to work for me. I have a 3D binary image with just one line and a point that I want to connect to the line. Imclose does not seem to work and neither does dilating and then taking the skeleton.

I have tried Peter Kovesi's code, but it does not seem to work for 3D images. Do you have any other suggestions?
