Where can I find the Activation Key and File Installation Key (FIK) for my license?

I want to distribute or retrieve the Activation Key for my license so that licensed end users can link to my license and activate MATLAB. I would also like to distribute or retrieve the File Installation Key to install MATLAB without using the internet. Where can I find these keys?

Administrators 

License administrators can obtain the Activation Key and File Installation Keys using Advanced Options in the License Center. To retrieve your Activation Key and File Installation Key, follow the steps below: 

1. Sign in to the License Center: https://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter. 
2. Select the license you want to use. 
3. Go to the Install and Activate tab. 
4. Click “Activate to retrieve license file.” 
5. Click Advanced Options. 
6. The Activation Key and the File Installation Key will appear on this screen. You can generate a File Installation Key for a different release using the drop down.  

End Users 

The File Installation Key is produced when you activate your license to a machine. See the following article for more information: How do I activate MATLAB without an internet connection? 

To retrieve a File Installation Key for a license that is already activated: 

1. Log into the License Center here: https://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter 
2. Click on the desired license. 
3. Select the "Install and Activate" tab. 
4. Click the blue arrow under "Get License File." 
5. If you do not see the activated machine and blue arrow, press "Update License File" to open the correct menu. 
6. Select a release. 
7. Specify that the software is not yet installed. 
8. The File Installation Key will appear on this screen. 

End users who are not allowed to perform keyless activations must contact their license administrators to obtain a File Installation Key. End users must also contact license administrators to obtain the Activation Key regardless of their permissions. In the MathWorks License Center, click the "Contact Administrators" tab to get contact information for your license administrators.

If you are not sure who your license administrator is, you should speak with your IT staff or the individual or team who manages software licensing at your organization.

Additionally, MathWorks Support may be able to assist you with determining who your license administrator is, depending on what information about your license is available to you.

On the licensecenter page, choose a license. Then click on the Activations and Installations page. The Advanced Options is on the lower right hand side of that, provided that you are an authorized administrator for the account

In case it comes helpful to someone, in my case (license administrator) the "Advanced options" button in license center was blocked by uBlock origin firefox extension. Disabling the extension made the button reappear.

What you downloaded from the play store is not MATLAB itself: it is only an interface that would allow you to use MATLAB remotely. You would still need to have purchased a MATLAB license.

What is available for iOS and android is an interface that connects to a remote matlab session run on your own desktop system , or run at Mathworks . You need to have purchased a matlab license to use these .

If your university has a campus license that can be used by students, then the university is responsible for activating students and Mathworks will not get involved (because it is up to university policy as to which students are permitted to use the license). In such a case, Mathworks could tell you who the contact person is for the license.

Not all Academic licenses can be installed by students; there are, for example, licenses that are for use in a computer lab only.

For some universities, just registering on Mathworks with your academic email address is enough to get you access to MATLAB Online; https://www.mathworks.com/products/matlab-online.html

I myself have no access at all to the license database.

Amna, if I pull all information together:

1. You do not have a MATLAB installation, otherwise you could enter the command "license" and would have the license number.

2. You are interested in using MATLAB Online. But you may or may not know that this is not a free service, it is connected to having one of a couple different license types.

3. The domain of the email address you use here ("MathWorks Account"), points to a university that indeed has no license that allows the use of MATLAB Online.

I cannot tell whether you are using a "Standard" (commercial) license, or an Education license; it does not appear likely that you are using a Student or Home license.

If you are the contact person for your license, then visit https://www.mathworks.com/mwaccount/?s_tid=gn_myac and click on your license number to see more details about the license. The third tab on that page is "Install and Activate"; if you click that then the resulting page has a button to "Activate a Computer"

Most of the time it is not necessary to go through that manual activation process on the MATLAB site, as the installer normally activates the license for you, but you might need to use manual activation for systems that do not have an internet connection.

If you have a valid license for any release after the one you are installing, then you can potentially use that license (provided you do not exceed the number of simultaneous systems that the license can be used with.)

In most cases, if you have a valid license to use and an internet connection, the installer is sufficient; if you were using R2011a or earlier (or around there) then you might need some assistance from Mathworks in getting a proper key. It is not typically a problem to activate an old software release against a valid license. (However... if you are activating against a license that software maintainance has expired for, there might potentially be a problem.)

If you are not the contact person for your license, then either the Technical Contact or Purchasing Contact would need to run the Activation (again, under the situation that you do not have an internet connection.)

Student licenses do not have access to that license page... but student licenses are also not able to download old releases.

the 4 series numbers are license numbers, not activation keys. Activation keys are 25 characters, mixed letters and digits. Error 510 is about activation keys.

Normally if you have a 4 series number you would associate your MATLAB Central account with the license number, and then when you used the installer you would have it log on, and you would select the license number from the list, and then the installer would take care of getting the activation key

If you purchased any other kind of MATLAB license then those would use license numbers rather than activation keys.

If you are using an license supplied by an organization, including licenses supplied by universities, then they are responsible for providing you with the necessary keys.

None of the volunteers here have access to the license database, so we cannot even check to see if a key is license is registered for your account.
