Description
The Open Circuit (Three-Phase) block models a three-phase connection that draws no current on any of the three phases.
Examples
Earthing Effects with Unbalanced Load
The effects of three different types of earthing connections on network voltages and currents.
Three-Phase Three-Level PWM Generator
Use the PWM Generator (Three-phase, Three-level) to control a Three-Level Converter. The upper and lower supply voltages are input to a Neutral point controller, which balances the DC-link capacitor voltages. Reference AC waveforms are used as inputs to the PWM Generator. There is one time scope for the controller waveforms.
Three-Phase Bridge Cycloconverter
A three-phase bridge cycloconverter. The cycloconverter consists of 36 thyristors and has the capacity to lower the frequency of the input voltage. The Control subsystem implements the cycloconverter RMS voltage control. It also provides pulse generation for the firing of the thyristors. The Visualization subsystem contains scopes that allow you to see the simulation results. The simulation time, t, is 1 second. The load increases when Load1 switches on at t = 0.75 seconds.
Three-Phase Voltage-Sourced Converter (FLB)
Model a three-phase voltage-sourced converter that uses Fixed Low-side Bias (FLB) modulation. This modulation scheme minimizes the switching in the converter as at any given time one phase is not being pulse modulated. The trade-off is the need for narrower pulses for a given level of acceptable harmonics. The model can be used to support selection of suitable values for L, C and the pulse modulation scheme parameters.
Ports
Conserving
Electrical conserving port representing the three phases of the three-phase block. For more information, see Three-Phase Ports.
Dependencies
To enable this port, set the Electrical connection parameter
to Composite three-phase ports.
Electrical conserving port associated with the phase a of the three-phase
block.
Dependencies
To enable this port, set the Electrical connection parameter to Expanded three-phase ports.
Electrical conserving port associated with the phase b of the three-phase
block.
Dependencies
To enable this port, set the Electrical connection parameter to Expanded three-phase ports.
Electrical conserving port associated with the phase c of the three-phase
block.
Dependencies
To enable this port, set the Electrical connection parameter to Expanded three-phase ports.
Parameters
Since R2026a
Whether to model composite or expanded three-phase ports.
Composite three-phase ports represent three individual electrical conserving ports with a single block port. You can use composite three-phase ports to build models that correspond to single-line diagrams of three-phase electrical systems.
Expanded three-phase ports represent the individual phases of a three-phase system using three separate electrical conserving ports.
Programmatic Use
To set the block parameter value programmatically, use
the set_param function.
| Parameter: | port_option |
| Values: | "ee.enum.threePhasePort.composite" (default) | "ee.enum.threePhasePort.expanded" |
Extended Capabilities
C/C++ Code Generation
Generate C and C++ code using Simulink® Coder™.
Version History
Introduced in R2013bThe Modeling option parameter has been replaced with the
Electrical connection parameter. You can now also set this
parameter value programmatically by using the set_param
function.
If you created a model containing this block in an earlier release, the software now automatically sets the value of the Electrical connection parameter to the previous value of the Modeling option parameter.
This block is no longer required. Starting in R2019b, the restriction that disallowed unconnected conserving ports in Simscape™ models has been lifted. Now, if you leave a conserving port unconnected, the physical network sets all the Through variables at this port to 0. However, you can still use terminator blocks to improve diagram readability.
There are no plans to remove the terminator blocks. All the existing models using these blocks work the same as in previous releases.
