Variable-Ratio Transformer
(To be removed) Discrete variable-ratio two-winding ideal transformer
The Specialized Power Systems library will be removed in R2026a. Use the Simscape™ Electrical™ blocks and functions instead. For more information on updating your models, see Upgrade Specialized Power System Models to use Simscape Electrical Blocks.

Description
The Variable-Ratio Transformer block implements a discrete, variable-ratio, two-winding ideal transformer.
When you use a Variable-Ratio Transformer block, set the
powergui block Simulation type to
Discrete and select the Automatically handle
Discrete solver and Advanced tab solver settings of blocks parameter in
the Preferences tab. The robust discrete solver is used to
discretize the electrical model. Simulink® signals an error if the robust discrete solver is not used.
Equations
The voltage ratio between windings 1 and 2 is determined by the input signal, N, such that:
where:
N1 is the voltage at winding 1.
N2 is the voltage at winding 2.
Assumptions and Limitations
Windings cannot be unconnected.
