How to evaluate the edge detection i have made using various algorithms with histograms?

 I had done some algorithms for edge detection of images. Now i have to evaluate those algorithms. How to evaluate them using histogram or any other means?
 I am in a totally confuse state. Please tell me how to do it. should i give the output image itself as input to evaluation or else what. Please help me.
