How to extract the red blood cell

Hi,

I am student on blood cell images. I need to extract only the red blood cells, which are the many one and eliminate the purple cell . Plz let me know how to extract only those cells , and also how i can find the area, mean and intensity of these cells alone. Kindly help.. Thank you,
