Network Connection Considerations for DCA1000EVM

To set up the hardware and obtain raw ADC data from DCA1000EVM, the host computer requires a Gigabit Ethernet port. It is recommended to use an integrated Network Interface Card.

However, if you have only one integrated NIC and you want to simultaneously connect to the DCA1000EVM and a network (or the internet), consider the below options:

  • If you need to connect to a network (for example, the internet) using an Ethernet cable, use a USB-to-Gigabit Ethernet adapter that offers speeds of 1GBPS. Preferably, use this adapter to connect to the network, so that the DCA1000EVM can use the built-in Ethernet port for the best performance.

  • If you can connect to network (or the internet) via WiFi, you can use NIC (Ethernet) for the DCA1000EVM connection and use WiFi to connect to a network.

If you are sharing one Ethernet port between the DCA1000 network and any other network, ensure to follow these guidelines:

  • DCA1000EVM uses a static IP configuration to transfer the data. The steps to do this are mentioned in the corresponding Hardware Setup screens. Before setting the static IP, ensure that you note down the current network settings so that you can revert back once you complete the tasks using DCA1000EVM.

  • If the host computer has only one Ethernet connection available and if you disconnect the internet connection to use the network interface card (NIC) for the DCA1000 connection, you must reconnect to the internet using that NIC before logging out of the host computer.

Caution

If you do not reconnect the host computer to the internet using that same NIC before logging out, you might lose the internet configuration settings on the host computer and your ability to log on later. In that case, contact your system administrator to reconfigure the internet configuration settings.

Note

Ensure that external applications like firewall or antivirus programs do not block network connection from DCA1000EVM. To check if it is blocking, when you run the Hardware Setup, go to the Test Connection screen and click Test Connection. If a third-party tool is blocking the connection, then corresponding error is displayed. For more details, refer to Issues with Network Firewall Settings.
