Description

SLATE (System Level Automation Tool for Engineers) is computer-aided engineering groupware for system designers. SLATE accelerates the design process by managing the entire design life cycle, from pre-proposal and proposal through implementation. SLATE's life cycle management functions include facilitating the major design tasks such as design capture, decomposition, partitioning, performance allocation and analysis, verification and simulation, requirement capture and tracking, document generation as well as supporting multiple design objectives (such as cost, reliability, and safety) required for a successful product.

SLATE allows the user to capture various system design alternatives and simulate each design using the familiar language of mathematics, which is MATLAB's role in the design process. Various algorithms and performance data can be captured, related directly to the system, and simulated using MATLAB as the mathematical evaluation engine. By associating many different models with various system elements (such as cost, noise, thermal properties), SLATE and MATLAB allow system designers to evaluate all aspects of each design and make better trade-off design decisions at the system level.
