Embed figure into Matlab GUI

Hi,

Can someone suggest how to call a figure that is automatically created by an embedded function in matlab and plot it within a GUI. The figure is generated by this embedded function as a pop-up. I tried using axes but am unable to get the actual handle for this figure. I have uploaded an image of the problem here

I'm unable to bring up your web page, but you say " I tried using axes but am unable to get the actual handle for this figure." Well I assume you put an axes on your figure. Both your axes, and your figure have "tag" properties which is how you reference their handles, which are handles.figMainWindow and handles.axesImage, or whatever names you chose for them. I don't know why you say you are unable to get the handle for the figure - it's just handles.figMainWIndow or whatever name you chose. Anyway, you don't even need that at all to display an image into axesImage, just set that with the axes command or via the 'Parent' property in imshow:

axes(handles.axesImage);  % or
imshow(yourImage, 'Parent', handles.axesImage);

Just make sure you don't issue a "figure" command beforehand otherwise it will create a new figure window and display the image in that instead of on your gui in the axesImage axes control.

But the code does not allow me to do this as the pop-up figure emerges from an embedded function. Is there a way to control how this figure [Wait bar - (which automatically pop -up)] sits inside the GUI within the fig box. The Tag for this box is "fig". I do not know the properties of the pop-up figure.

I still can't get to the picture. Are you saying that you have some third-party-written software that pops up a waitbar/progress bar in a separate window? If so there may be nothing you can do for that. But you can make your own progress bar on your own gui using code. I use code by Doug Schwarz:

Hi,

Thanks for offering me this code and for the time you've spent attempting to find a solution.

Unfortuately, I can't use it as the Waitbar created by the embedded function is particular to this complex one. The parameters for the waitbar are created internally by the function. All I get is a pop-up window (separate from the main GUI) which offers me the progress status of data being processed by this function (som_train, see main code in my initial posting). The som_train function uses an embedded function to generate the pop-up figure

What I would like is to introduce this pop-up figure (created by an embedded function in Matlab) into an axes box where plots are usually displayed. Whenever I try to use this function, I always get this pop-up figure in a separate window.
