The algorithim behind matlab guassfit function

i am working with certain signals or data points and we have been using matlab to curve fit them which is easy but now we need to write a program on c++ to do the same function. does anybody know if where i could find the math behind how matlab's cftool gaussian fit works. Thanks alot
