I am designing a simple hydraulic system with 4 way directional valve.
I looked in many catalogues do define the valve which I will use and the parameters are always a relation of Pressure and Flow, while the 4-Way Directional Valve block ask me for Maximum Area and Opening.
And if I change it to Pressure-flow characteristic I do not know how to set this vectors and matrix.
So how can I properly set my valve?

Hi Lucca,
To parametrize the pressure-flow curve or an area-vs-position table in the valve block, you'll likely need to use the "parameter estimator" tool from Simulink Design Optimization. This is usually the best option of you have too many parameters to be tuned by hand.
What method to use could also depend on what info, e.g. pressure-flow curve, is available from the datasheet, in my experience.

In later releases of Simscape Fluids, some directional valves are pre-parametrized. For example: https://www.mathworks.com/help/physmod/hydro/ref/4way3positiondirectionalvalveil.html#mw_081f11e1-86cd-44fd-85d5-397155b41e93
