App Designer mouse interaction and coordinates

I was looking into switching to using app designer instead of GUIDE for creating an imaging gui which would require mouse coordinate input. I've worked on something like this previously with GUIDE, having the mouse be tracked,events registered and the x,y pixel coordinates of the event saved as variables. I cannot figure out a way of doing this in app designer.

The only resources I could find said that mouse/keyboard interactivity was not quite supported in app designer yet, however those posts were answered little over a year ago.

Has there been any update to this? Is there currently a way to have user interactive input via mouse be enabled/used?
