How to make a Matlab web app accessible on the internet?

I recently developped a Matlab app (for research/academia) with the aim to deploy it on the internet. However, when looking at instruction to install a web app server here:

it says "The server must never be exposed to the open Internet. ". This means that only users with access to the machine where I install my server or intranet will be able to access my app? I was hoping that any user with the url of my app would be able to access it and run it. If I understood that correctly, this is a pretty big restriction for sharing Matlab app. Is there any workaround?

While, yes there are ways to have an app publicly available (mathworks will happily sell you the required license) and note that the restriction is just advice, be aware that on a an academic license, you're probably not allowed to do it.

You'd be better off asking Mathworks directly to know for sure.
