A digital credential, sometimes called a digital badge, is an electronic representation of a verified achievement. Unlike paper or PDF certificates, a digital credential enables you to represent, share, and show proof of your skills in a widely accepted format. Credentials are issued, accessed, and displayed online, and can be shared on social media channels, personal profiles, and digital portfolios.

You can share your badge directly to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; over email; or embedded in a web site or your email signature.

Which MathWorks courses offer digital credentials?

Currently, digital credentials are available for MATLAB Fundamentals and as part of the MathWorks Certification Program. Completion certificates in the form of a PDF file are still available for the other self-paced courses.

Where can I see my digital credential?

MathWorks works with credentialing vendor Credly to issue digital credentials. Upon completion of course or program requirements, you will be issued a digital credential via Credly and invited to claim it. Once you create a Credly profile, you can access and view your digital credential on your Credly profile page. If you’ve received a digital credential on Credly before, be sure to use the same email address so that all your credentials appear as part of the same profile. Additionally, you can share the digital credential on social media, display it on your LinkedIn profile, and download or embed the badge to use in other locations such as on a personal web site or email signature.

Will I have to create my own account on Credly to claim my digital credential?

Yes. First-time digital credential recipients will be required to create a Credly account. You will be asked to complete the form and accept the terms of use and privacy policy. Once you have completed the initial setup process (which should take less than 5 minutes), you will be able to receive and utilize the digital credentials you have earned.

What are labor market insights and how can I access them through Credly?

Labor market insights are pulled from live job requisitions. Based on your skills, you can learn which employers are hiring, what jobs you might be qualified for, salary ranges, and more. Search active job listings and even apply for them with just a few clicks through Credly. Access the labor market insights from your badge details page by clicking on “Related Jobs” or by clicking on the skill tags assigned to your credential.

What’s to keep someone else from copying my digital credential and using it?

A digital credential is a tamper-resistant component containing metadata related to your accomplishment. When you share your credential, you send more than just the visual image representing the accomplishment. This link to verified data makes the files more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

Can I export badges issued through Credly to other badge-storing platforms?

Yes, you can download your badge from the Share Badge page. Your downloaded badge contains Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI)–compliant metadata embedded into the image. This allows you to store your badge on other OBI-compliant badge sites.

What if I don’t want my digital credential to be public?

You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.
